Nokia 8.1 Camera

Nokia 8.1 houses a set of dual rear cameras made up of a 1/2.55-inch 12MP main camera with 14um pixels and OIS 2PD and a 13MP FF secondary camera. This device also features a rear flash placed closely at the left of the rear camera frame.

While the Nokia 8 features a 13MP front camera, the new Nokia 8.1 sports a huge 20MP FF/0.9um selfie camera which prompts enhanced light capture for selfies, meaning you can take beautiful selfies even in low light (as Nokia promises). This device features Google LensTM and Motion Photos is integrated into its camera apps, hence, it will be able to shoot super smooth videos.

The display (and design) of Nokia 8.1 is quite similar to Nokia 7.1 only that it’s now larger. While Nokia 7.1 features a 5.84-inch Full-HD+ PureDisplay, the new Nokia 8.1 has a 6.18-inch Full-HD+ PureDisplay. More so, this new display has HDR10 support allowing for a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits and a colour depth of 10 bits which means you get a brighter viewing experience. And thanks to 96% colour gamut and 1:1500 contrast ratio, you get crisper details and richer colours in your view. Nokia boasts that the Android 9 Pie running this device introduces Adaptive brightness, a new feature that learns your screen brightness preferences and automatically adjusts the settings.

Nokia 8.1 Design

Like I almost spilled earlier, the design elements of the new Nokia is quite similar to that of the Nokia 7.1. Essentially, the difference is that the new Nokia 8.1 assumes a larger 154.8mm tall, 75.76 wide, and 7.97 mm thick body and weighs a relatively heavier 180g. The front and rear of this device are made of glass and it has curved edges as well, hence, it’s quite easy to hold and looks beautiful. Nokia 8.1 comes in Blue/Silver, Steel/Copper, and Iron/Steel colour options.

Nokia 8.1 Battery

The new Nokia phone comes with a 3500mAh battery capacity. Nokia relayed that thanks to the new Adaptive battery feature on the new Android 9 Pie of this device, it can provide a 2-day battery life. We also noted that Nokia 8.1 supports 18 W fast charging. 

Nokia 8.1 Performance

The new Nokia 8.1, like most of the newer HMD Global Nokia mobile phones, is also run by the latest Android 9 Pie based on Android One UI. Nokia boasts that the combination of those two lets Nokia 8.1 like other recent Nokia phones delivers one of the best performances on an Android device.

Nokia explains that while the latest Android 9 Pie featured on this device introduces new and helpful Android functionalities such as the new Adaptive battery which helps provide 2-days of battery life (according to Nokia), the Android One UI gives you a streamlined, easy to use user interface and a curated set of preinstalled apps.

Additionally, Nokia says that the Android one UI meets the elevated software requirements set by Google, allowing you to access free, unlimited high-quality photo storage with Google Photos.

Both Nokia 8.1 variants feature a MicroSD card slot which supports up to 400GB of expandable memory.
