HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Price, Specs & Review [Best for PS4, Xbox One, PC]

The HyperX Cloud Stinger Core ticks all the boxes if you’re looking for the next top gaming headset for your console and PC gaming needs. While it doesn’t deliver the premium headphone experience you’d probably be looking for, it does deliver one of the best audio experiences on a budget.

This HyperX Cloud Stinger Core price, specs, and review takes the headset apart, from the tiny details to the bigger needs of every gamer. The first thing you’d notice about this headset is that focusses a lot more on essentials like an adjustable steel headband, noise-canceling mic and 40mm drivers, and less on luxuries like plush leatherette and memory foam; in fact, there is no RGB light, no texture or finishing, nothing.

It’s the budget gaming headset that is built with a lot more features than design. Let’s take a look at the specifications of the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core gaming headset.

HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Design Review

The design of this gaming headset remains one of the simplest I have seen. As we have mentioned earlier, the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core doesn’t come with the many extras that you find on pricier gaming headsets. This gaming headset comes with support for PS4, PS4 Pro, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, VR, and PC.

The case of the Cloud Stinger Core is made from high-grade plastic, which is one of the first things you’d notice that makes it different to pricier variants like the Cloud 2 and Cloud Alpha, two headsets that come with aluminum housing. The Cloud Stinger Core also comes with a steel slider that helps you get the best positioning of the headset irrespective of the head size.

You’d love the neon blue rings that were highlighted in the design of this headset. These blue rings circle the ear cups, giving you a slight contrast on colors on a black-on-black colored headset. The mic on the left cup is designed to swivel, the cups are also designed to swivel, and this helps to achieve some comfort and get a little bit of customization freedom.

One of the best features of the Cloud Stinger Core is its relative 215g light weight compared to some pricier, and even lesser-priced gaming headsets. This doesn’t remove the fact that the headset remains sturdy and of quality build.

The HyperX Cloud Stinger Core sports ear cups with comfortable padding. I must say that these cups and the ear cushions are some of the best I have used. The ear cups are large enough to seat around the ears, and even if you have larger ears, you shouldn’t experience any kind of pressure or having the headset seat on your ears.

One challenge we experience with the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core was how hard it is to have it transported. You can’t fold the headset into a compact format, they also don’t come with a dedicated case, which makes it hard to move it around when you’re not taking your backpack.

HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Headphones

The Cloud Stinger Core comes with 40mm speaker drivers, a frequency response of 20~20,000Hz, and a 16 Ω impedance. The headphones do a pretty good job of blocking out outside noise, helping get more immersed in your games, while also blocking the sounds of your gaming and music from escaping outside. This also helps ensure that people around you don’t get disturbed by any escaped sound.

The quality of the sound is a mile better than the average budget gaming headset on the market. These headphones provided crisp clear, snappy sound quality. I could feel the sounds of the gunshots, of my weapons reloading, of the chatters on the streets of the Assassin Creed, the direction from which gunshots are flying in Fortnite, and the walking steps of enemies and other players.

The Cloud Stinger Core does a good job of handling the lows and helping you get deeper bass. I tried this gaming headset with FPS games and some racing games, and I can attest that the quality is outstanding. Did I mention that with a little investment, you can have the surround sound 7.1 add-ons to this headset? If you’re playing games like Fortnite were the sound is everything, you sure need this.

HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Mic

The microphone on the Cloud Stinger Core isn’t detachable, which means you’d not likely feel comfortable having this gaming headset double as your daily driver. It also means you’d probably not have a lot of freedom when it comes to choosing your microphone. It does, however, swivels well, so you can easily have it away from your face whenever you want. The mic automatically gets muted when you swivel away from your face and unmutes when you return it close to your face.

I did notice that the noise-canceling feature of the mic isn’t great. It easily picks on surrounding noise, and if you’re recording a video, streaming or in a Zoom video conferencing, it could easily mess things up.

HyperX Cloud Stinger Core for PS4 and Xbox One

The HyperX Cloud Stinger Core is compatible with PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and any other gaming consoles and controllers that have support for a 4-pole 3.5mm audio jack.

HyperX Cloud Stinger Core PC

The HyperX Cloud Stinger Core works with any PC you’re using as it comes with a 4-pole 3.5mm audio jack. If your PC doesn’t come with one dedicated port for both mic and headphones, you might have to get a splitter to use the headset with a PC that has different ports for mic and headphones.

Hyperx Cloud Stinger Core Drivers Download

This gaming headset doesn’t come with features like Surround Sound 7.1 out of the box. To have this feature added, you’ll need to install the HyperX NGENUITY. With this Software, you will be able to get the 7.1 virtual surround sound on this gaming headset and have personalized sound profiles created, which you can then seamlessly switch between when gaming.
