RedBox may challenge Netflix for web video domination

You may have heard of RedBox before, its those little red kiosks at Wal-Mart or McDonalds and many other places that offer DVD rentals for only $1. Well now they want to be more competitive with Netflix, by offering an online streaming service of their own. In a recent interview the president of the company said:

“The way we look at it is, How can it help us deliver to our customers things we can’t do in our kiosks?” Lowe said. “What role might it play in expanding our selection?”

This would be a bold move for RedBox, it may be a while before they will be able to catch up to Netflix’s dominating lead in the movie streaming business, but they actually might be able to do it. RedBox also faces some fierce competition from companies other than Netflix according to Bloomberg:

Redbox also faces competition from Apple Inc. and Best Buy Co., which sell movie downloads. Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world’s largest retailer, bought the Vudu Inc. online entertainment service in February and Sears Holdings Corp., the largest department store owner, said on June 22 it plans to sell and rent movies online through an agreement with Sonic.

Well this may be good for consumers, it could drive down the monthly costs of online streaming and bring more new hit titles to your TV or computer.

Google tests multiple account login

Wouldn’t it be great if you could log into all of your Google accounts at the same time if you have multiple? Well it seems that Google may be implementing a way to do this in the near future. Right now it can be done with scripts such as a Greasemonkey script, but that isnt as easy as Google doing it for us.

The people over at Google Operating System have had users submit a screenshot of what looks like a beta test for multiple account login. It appears that it will be available for Calendar, Code, Docs, Gmail, Reader, and Sites for the test but surely it will be across all Google apps when its released.

Facebook will always be Free of charge

The rumor-mill has been churning out rumors again. There have been rumors flying around that Facebook will soon charge a montly fee for access. These are nothing more than that, rumors. The rumor originated by certain emails or messages through Facebook that would tell users that Facebook would soon be charging for services and to sign a petition against it. The group that originally started the rumor seems to have been deleted so I cannot link you to it.

I faintly remember the same thing happening on Myspace before Facebook was around. The same thing happened, there was never a charge and it was all rumors. Just a reminder, before believing rumors contact the business first to confirm those rumors before spreading. Now, back to Farmville.

AT&T Removes the iPhone Unlimited data plan

AT&T Removes the iPhone Unlimited data plan

Well AT&T has extended their control over data usage on their network today. AT&T has published a press release today that announces lower priced data plans for all. It announces that instead of unlimited data for $30 a month, instead it will be 200MB for $15 a month and $25 a month for 2GB of data and $10 for each additional GB. AT&T promises to notify users by a text message when they get close to their data usage limit on their plan, the intervals are 65%, 90%, and 100%.

With the news that Tethering will be available on iPhone OS 4, I believe AT&T felt they would not be able to handle unlimited data for everyone tethering their iPhone’s to their laptops. Oh by the way, you will have to pay an additional $20 a month for tethering on the iPhone on an AT&T data plan.
