iPhone 5 may release mid September


Verizon announced their financial results for Q2 yesterday and also hinted at the iPhone 5 release this fall. It seems that the release dates have been pushed back further and further as of recent.

RadioShack is offering $50 off Android Smartphones

RadioShack is now offering $50 off any $99.99 or more Android Smartphone purchase starting today and ending on Saturday, July 28th in stores. The promotion will continue on the website until the end of August. Customers that will be upgrading or signing new two-year contracts are the only ones eligible for the $50 off offer unfortunately. Apple no longer interested in EPEAT certification

Apple has sent notice to EPEAT Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool and will no longer be submitting their devices for review. EPEAT certifies devices in their ability to be environmentally responsible. The certification process also checks whether or not the device will be easily dismantled and recycled with regular tools. Apple's latest devices such as the Macbook Pro with Retina display are ineligible for certification due to the inability to easily dismantle it.

Sony buys Gaikai for $380 Million

This is big news, Sony announced today that it will acquire Gaikai the online streaming game service for $380 million. The deal officially did close on June 30th, Sony plans to disrupt the gaming force with this purchase. This acquisition means that partnerships with Samsung, LG, Walmart, and others may be on the horizon for Sony as well. Gaikai has been working on their relationships with manufacturers like Samsung to include their streaming games app onto the TV sets. With the acquisition of Gaikai I can see Sony offering streaming games on their PlayStation console or future generation consoles they may release. This move by Sony is in direct competition with Microsofts Xbox Live service which does not currently have a live game streaming service. However Onlive could be targeted by the giant.
