After hearing about Nintendo‘s Live Event for today, I was so excited to *finally* hear the release date and the price point for what I am sure will be my new favorite console… Thankfully, Reggie didn’t beat around the bush.
The first thing Reggie announced was the release date of November 18, Wii U shoppers will have the chance to choose from two different configurations:
The basic set (which is white) will retail for $299, and will include the Wii U Console, the GamePad, a high-speed HDMI cable, and a sensor bar.
The deluxe set, which is black, will retail for $349 and will include everything the basic set has, plus a GamePad charging cradle, extra storage, and comes boxed with Nintendo Land.
We got a good look at a couple of Nintendo Land titles that were not discussed before at E3, there will be a Metroid ‘attraction’, as well as a Pikmin adventure. In the Metroid BLAST attraction, players will work together by controlling the space ship with the GamePad and the character with the Wii controls and work cooperatively across levels. Unfortunately, the Pikmin Adventure was a mere mention without much information.
More information about Super Mario Bros. U was put forth, the most interesting of which is a return to a path and point map overworld, like those we got used to in the very early Mario titles. Also discussed was a challenge mode, in which the game challenges players to fine-tune their hand eye coordination and playing skills. Examples given of the objectives were a speed trial and getting through the whole level without touching the ground.
For Lego City Undercover, we finally meet the ‘hero’ of the game, an undercover operative known as Chase McCain. Playing as Chase, players will have to use the Wii U GamePad to track down evil villain Rex Fury. A minifigure of Chase McCain is available for those who pre-order the game.
In the realm of third-party developers, Platinum Games will be bringing us Bayonetta 2 as a Wii U exclusive, and “Project P-100” finally got it’s official name, “The Wonderful 101”. I think I liked “Project P-100” better… Capcom will be bringing us Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U and 3DS, and will somehow allow us to make simultaneous progress in our game between the two consoles. Activision will be bringing us Skylanders GIANTS, a new revision of the popular Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure that have kids begging endlessly for “Just one more figurine!”. Also on offer will be ABC Wipeout 3, a game made from the popular television show, 007 Legends, and Transformers Prime the Game, which will be a Wii U exclusive. They played a live demo for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, but the streaming video was lagging so badly it was difficult to glean any details other than it looks AWESOME.
With all this new information floating about, I am more pumped than ever for Nintendo’s Wii U. I think I’ll be buying one for every game room in my house; can’t wait for November 18th!
