Apple seems to be reportedly experimenting with a smaller 7.85-inch iPad model in their testing labs. John Gruber or Daring Fireball revealed this information on an episode of The Talk Show when host Dan Benjamin asked if Apple was going to release a smaller tablet. He said “Well, I don’t know. What I do know is that they have one in the lab…a 7.85 inch iPad that runs at 1024×768… it’s just like the regular iPad shrunk down a bit.” He also said that he heard from a bunch of people that they were ‘noodling’ with the design at Apple.
Now he mentions that he has heard nothing of Apple actually releasing a smaller tablet but he speculates that this could be in response to the Kindle Fire by Amazon. And it is a good possibility that Apple would reveal such a new device at the Worldwide Developers Conference Apple will host in June. The new tablet will also compete with the Kindle price points at $249 – $299 range.
We are sure that Apple tests many different variations of their devices and this may never see the light of day. However it is still fun to speculate if it were to release, would you buy it over the current size of the iPad? Please share your thoughts below.
