The next iPad has been announced. We aren’t sure if it will be called the iPad 3, HD, 2s or whatever. The next iPad is punch full of new features let me list them below.
This new iPad supports a Retina Display, a 9.7-inch display, 3.1 million pixels in a 2048×1536 resolution at 246ppi. The screen also has better color saturation than the previous. The new model of the iPad also sports an A5x processor and a quad-core graphics chip. Apple states that it can deliver four times the performance of the Tegra 3.
There is also a new iSight camera on the iPad which is supposed to be very similar to what is on the iPhone 4s. The 5-megapixel camera is a huge upgrade from the camera on the iPad 2. The new iPad is also capable of capturing 1080p video which is no surprise.
A very big surprise this year is that Apple has jumped on the 4G LTE bandwagon with support for both AT&T and Verizon. The iPad supports the 21 Mbps HSPA+ and the LTE radio supports pulling down 73Mbps on both networks. You can also now use the iPad as a portable hotspot as long as your carrier supports it.
You would think that with the new added 4G support that you would lose battery life. Apple states that there will be no battery hit and it will support 10 hours on 4G.
Pricing has not changed. The new iPad will be available March 16th, starting at $499 for the 16GB WiFi model and scaling up to $829 for the 64GB version with 4G. Pre-orders start today in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, with much of the rest of the globe to follow on March 23rd.
The new iPad also supports a new iPhoto which will be very similar to what is available on the Mac in OS X.
