Well it looks like we will be going another year without the release of a refresh to the Sony PlayStation 3 console. Kaz Hirai, the Representative Corporate Executive Officer and Executive Deputy President of Sony Corporation, and Andrew House who is the Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment have both stated that there will be no announcement of a PS4 console or next generation device at E3 2012 or anytime soon. Many people have anticipated new hardware from both Sony and Microsoft this year with the impending launch of Nintendo’s newest console, the Wii U. Though it easy to argue that the Wii U is just simply an attempt to catch up to the XBOX 360 and PS3 when it comes to hardware performance and gaming graphics.
We wonder if this will have an effect on when Microsoft may reveal their next generation console. Will they release earlier like they have in the past,or try to release at the same time? That is a question that we are eager to see answered. We already are aware of what plans Nintendo has for the 2012 year, and we may hear something from Microsoft regarding a possible Xbox 720 at E3 2012. Sony cannot afford to allow Microsoft and Nintendo to gain more market share than them in the next generation of consoles as it will leave them in the same predicament they were in a few years ago with the PS3. Some would argue that XBOX Live has been the dominant online service because of the earlier release of it.
