Today, Google announced within their Android Developers Blog that all devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) will be required to include a native theme named “Holo” to allow for application compatibility. Google apparently wants the theme and related widgets to provide consumers with a more consistent experience across all Android ICS devices.
Google still says it will not interfere with any major theme customization that manufacturers want to place on the user interface of Android ICS. In their own words they say…
“We have no desire to restrict manufacturers from building their own themed experience across their devices. In fact we’ve gone further to make this even easier…”
So ultimately it appears that Google has no plans to bring uniformity to the entire Android ICS experience across all devices.
