3.7 Million Android Devices Activated During Christmas Weekend

Can anybody else say “wowsers” to 3.7 Million new Android devices being activated in one weekend! Those numbers are straight from the tweets of Andy Rubin, Senior VP of Mobile at Google. According to Google there are usually 700,000 Android devices activated per day on average. Well it looks like Christmas weekend’s Saturday and Sunday were not so average of a day for both Google and carriers alike.

We have to remember that carrier supported Android devices does not only include smartphones any longer. There are plenty of tablets that are lined up on the carriers with embedded 3G and/or 4G connectivity as well. The growth in marketshare by Android is evident and with this high adoption rate and more and more devices coming out we wonder how well Apple will hold out with a small handful of devices in the lineup.
