Sprint is one of the only carriers that has not eliminated their unlimited data plans for smartphones. It has been rumored and logical that Sprint may fall into line and eliminate their unlimited data plans for users on the network.
Today Sprint Chief Technology Officer Stephen Bye has announced that Sprint has no plans to remove their unlimited data plans. He made the announcement at GigaOm’s Mobilize Conference in San Francisco Monday. Bye also stated that “There is clearly a cost to support unlimited” in which he refers to supporting the network, customer service, and support. He did admit that it will be a challenge to keep costs down while providing this continued service to customers.
Sprint plans on deploying its own 4G LTE network to compete with Verizon and AT&T, Sprint still plans to offer unlimited data on those networks. Now if Sprint lands the iPhone on its network this October they may face new challenges maintaining unlimited data than before the iPhone.
