Netflix has just scored some new content in a deal with the Discovery Communications which includes content from Discovery Channel, TLC and Science. The two-year agreement places shows like “Man vs. Wild” and “How its Made” onto Netflix instant streaming.
This deal comes shortly after Netflix splits up its DVD rental service from the streaming service. Netflix has been facing numerous hurdles in attaining new content from publishers for its streaming services.
Discovery Chief Executive David Zaslav stated that the deal includes “meaningful economics” for the communication company. If anything this deal shows that Netflix is still very interested in expanding its streaming library for its users. Netflix is being pressured to attain new content as it loses one of its biggest content providers Starz after contract negotiations failed with the company. Starz wants 10 times more money than the previous contract negotiations allowed for which was $30 million a year.
Netflix still needs to raise consumer and investor confidence in the service as the stock prices are still in a free fall, Netflix closed at 128 points Wednesday.
