Gadget Daily: Atari Arcade Duo Powered Joystick for the iPad

While gaming on iOS and Android devices still fail in comparison to gaming systems like the Nintendo 3DS, and the Sony PSP, this kind of mobile gaming has gained a form of respected popularity. Top shot companies like GameStop have taken notice of the possibilities of mobile gaming, and now Atari has jumped into the market with their Atari Arcade Duo Powered Joystick for the iPad.

The Atari Arcade Duo Powered Joystick is iPad-compatible which works as a dock. The dock has a joystick, 4 physical buttons, and an on/off switch on the side. The Atari Arcade Duo Powered Joystick goes hand-in-hand with Atari’s iOS app; Atari’s Greatest Hits. Atari’s Greatest Hits comprises of over 2600 classic Atari games like Centipede and Astroids.

While no release date has been announced, Discovery Bay Games has the item listed as “Available Soon” at Target, Toys-R-Us, and even Walmart. I expect this device to be within the $29.99 – $49.99 price range. If that makes you unhappy, consider that iCade (a similar, yet more bulky product) would run you $99.99. We’ll keep an eye on this one, and get an update to you guys once it hits the shelves.
