The MMO world seems to be riddled with the constant repetition of fantasy and magic or sci-fi and spaceships. Wargaming.net, the creators of the successful World of Tanks game, have decided to shake things up with their new flight combat MMO World of Warplanes which will be presented at Gamescom 2011.
World of Warplanes will take place in several key eras, starting from 1930’s with biplanes up to Korean War jet fighters. The game will be solely based on aircraft gameplay with players able to build full-scale careers of virtual pilots.
The game will begin in beta, allowing users to control around 60 airplanes from Germany, USSR and USA with British and Japanese planes added with further content updates. The planes will all be unique in their effectiveness and behavior. Players will choose from three main warplane classes – single-engine light fighters capable of engaging enemies in close dogfights, heavy fighters with their deadly straight attacks, and strafing aircrafts, the fearsome threat for ground targets. Every plane will feature multiple variations of ammo types, engines, and other crucial modules, and their various combinations will allow players to choose the best configuration for the most effective behavior in combat.
I am a bit excited to see this; I enjoyed playing games like Blazing Angels and Ace Combat, so an MMO where you control planes sounds right up my alley!
