Google blocks co.cc from search results

google logo

Google has taken the attack on malware into its own hands today as it blocks the entire co.cc subdomain. The block removed about 11 million results from the Google search index which should dramatically clean up much malware in search results.

Co.cc is classified by Google as a “freehost” and is owned by a company in Korea that allows bulk purchasing of domains, offers free domains, or offers them really cheap. A scan Google performed on the domain co.cc revealed that an extremely high percentage of their sites were riddled with malware.

I can say this change Google has made is welcome and should make search results much easier to sift though in the future. This is a great example on how much control Google actually has on it’s results on the web.

    It’s = It is.

    You obviously can learn code. Think of this as proper syntax in the English code.

    “An scan” -> “A scan” :)

    Actually, this happened over a week ago. Not a big deal, I just thought you should know.

    So essentially google might be discriminating against poor people?

    Thank you, I have corrected that. Don’t know how that got past me.

    Our mistake, corrected.

    This is a good development. If a domain owner wants to serve up malware and exercise no control over its larcenous members, is should be ostracized.  Good move, Google. I support you.

    Poor ripoff artists, vandals and sociopaths? I discriminate every time!

    Yes clearly this is an act of “google evil”. Idiot.

    Google owns the search engine, therefore they can index what they want. If you don’t like it there are other choices out there.
