Netflix now available on Android devices

Android Netflix Logo

You read the title right, Netflix is now available on Android devices and can be downloaded from the Android Market. Not all Android devices are supported yet more will be added soon. The following devices are supported today:

  • HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
  • HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
  • HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
  • HTC G2 with Android 2.2
  • Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3.

The Market download will initially be available only on select phones that currently have the requisite playback support. We expect to quickly add to the number of phones that can download from Android Market as we work with ecosystem partners to expand playback support.

Netflix has stated on their blog that Netflix was delayed because of the lack of a video streaming standard on Android devices. Without this standard, Netflix needs to test every Android handset and device before they can release the application on it. The Netflix app on Android will be fully supported and Netflix does promise that the list of supported devices will continue to grow. For a list of devices supported check out the link here.
