Microsoft warns against “homebrew” Windows Phone 7 updates

Many customers with Windows Phone 7’s have been frustrated because updates that were promised for their device still have not arrived. Now customers have resorted to “homebrew” techniques that give them the latest updates but Microsoft warns against doing so. More specifically they say may void your warranty:
It’s even possible your phone might stop working properly. Bottom line: unsupported workarounds put you in uncharted territory that may void your phone warranty. We’ve made a lot of progress in recent weeks, so I urge you to please be patient for just a bit longer and wait for your official update notification to arrive. –Eric Hautala – General Manager, Customer Experience Engineering, Microsoft
Their claim for this is that Microsoft has not fully tested these “homebrew” methods to make sure that it doesn’t damage the phone. Damage which could cause the phone to be unable to receive future updates from Microsoft. Microsoft wants to reassure customers that the updates will arrive and progress is being made to make sure they arrive. So, for now be patient.
