Foxconn in Shenzhen, China has been notified recently that they will need to begin shipment of the iPad 2 by the end of February 2011. According to DigiTimes, the plant will ship around 600,000 units at that time. The iPad 2 was originally supposed to be shipped in January according to DigiTimes but was delayed because of firmware issues.
The sources pointed out that the iPad 2 will ship as soon as the end of February in 2011. Apple originally planned to start mass production in January, but because the device’s firmware is currently still in testing, Apple has been postponing the schedule. Since Foxconn’s new plants in Chengdu are still in pilot production, iPad 2 will be mainly supplied by its Shenzhen plants, while the company’s upstream component partners have all been notified of the shipments schedule.
Sales for the iPad have still been growing surpassing 7.5 million units sold in the first 9 months of this year. If DigiTimes sources are correct, the iPad 2 should hit shelves before summer 2011.
