Cricket Wireless and Sanyo jump on the Android boat!

Prepaid company Cricket Wireless and Sanyo has recently announced their first Android creation, the Zio, which will is currently available for pre-order on the Cricket website. According to the site if you pre-order today, your device should ship by August 21st. Cricket has the Zio listed at a retail price of $249.99, but if you purchase it online you will get a “web only” $20 off discount and that brings down the cost to $229.99. The service plan for this device is $55, currently, which provides unlimited talk, text, web, and much more. A reasonable price for someone who wants some Android goodness but does not want to be signed into a commitment with a post-paid contract service.

List of features include, Android 1.6, 3.5 inch display (400×800), 600MHZ Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, WIFI and Bluetooth enabled, 3.2 Mega-pixel camera with video capture, and 512MB of built in memory. According to Sanyo representatives, they will be offering an Android software update in the coming months for Eclair. But we are a bit skeptical on how they will support Android since they are new to the Android game. These features should be more than enough for your average prepaid smartphone user so if you’re on Cricket and you’re itching for some Android, it looks like the Zio is first up.
